The Caregiver Financial Empowerment Study

We have a great new benefit that we are offering to BubbieCare caregivers.  We have partnered with a local organization, Jewish Family Service (JFS), who is giving FREE financial coaching and courses to community members like yourself.  The financial coaching and courses are being offered as part of a large study conducted by the University of Notre Dame.  If you participate in this study, you are automatically entered into a drawing to win $100!

What is the Opportunity?

  • You will be entered into a lottery with a 50:50 chance of being chosen for the financial coaching and financial courses being offered through Jewish Family Service.
  • If chosen for the financial program, you would have coaching calls bi-weekly for 6 months or more if you wanted, and the financial courses would occur for 6 months.
  • The financial program works towards 3 main goals: increasing income, building savings, and acquiring assets.
  • If you join the study, you will also be entered into a lottery to win a $100 visa gift card.

What exactly are they studying?

  • The University of Notre Dame is studying the financial program’s effectiveness in improving financial well-being and health outcomes.

How will my information be protected?

  • The research team will use your information to match it to administrative datasets, which have information such as amount of savings, amount of debt, credit score, and usage of governmental assistance.
  • No one else besides the research team will be able to use your identified data. Your name will never be published as a part of the study, and it will not be reported to any government entities.
  • They are interested in the group outcome — how much better on average are financial program recipients doing? In the end, there will be 900 participants across Texas. The research team will not be reporting on the story of any one person.

What will I have to do to join?

  • To join the study, simply click on the button at the top or bottom of the page and you will automatically be brought to the survey.

What information will be used in the study?

Does the financial program cost anything?

  • If you are chosen for the financial program, it will be free of charge.

Does being a part of the study affect my Caregiver position?

  • Your BubbieCare membership will not be affected in any way by this study. BubbieCare will not have access to any information collected throughout the study.

Can I join the financial coaching/courses without joining the study?

  • Unfortunately, no. The program only has space for a limited number of people, and if you join the study, there is a 50-50 chance of being a part of the financial program.

Can I leave the study if I decide I no longer want to participate?

  • Joining the study is completely voluntary, and you can leave at any time. If you decide not to participate, or decide to leave the study later, there will be no penalty other than the fact that you will no longer be eligible for the financial coaching or financial courses being offered.
  • To leave the study, please contact cafestudy@nd.edu

What information does Jewish Family Service get?

  • If you choose to join the study, Jewish Family Service will receive only your name and contact information. They will not receive any other personal information from the survey. They will use this information to let you know if you were selected for the financial coaching and courses.

Will I be contacted again after I join?

  • If you join the study, someone from the research team will contact you at least once after your financial courses are completed with a short survey. Only the research team will have access to that survey.
